We are developing a new heritage walking route to provide safe and pleasant on-foot connections in Finchley. Our route will link Finchley Church End with open spaces, sports facilities and seven local schools, and joins the existing Dollis Valley Greenwalk and Capital Ring to form an easily accessible 5-mile circular walk.
The route will bring the community into contact with our incredible local heritage and will encourage people to opt to travel locally on foot rather than driving, resulting in healthier lifestyles and less traffic! The route has been designed to be safe for everyone, especially children walking to school, with a combination of minor road crossing points, underpasses, a pedestrian bridge, one zebra and and three pelican crossings.
The historic paths radiating from St Mary-at-Finchley, northeast towards Finchley Manor and southwest towards Mill Hill have been in use for hundreds of years – and we want to celebrate them. We are working with London Borough of Barnet and engaging with local schools to develop the route, which is part of the “Give Me Shelter! Church and Churchyard Project”.
