THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN   (HON 362)

O for a thousand tongues to sing
my great Redeemer’s praise,
the glories of my God and King,
the triumphs of His grace.

Jesus! the name that charms our fears,
that bids our sorrows cease;
’tis music in the sinner’s ears,
’tis life, and health, and peace.

He breaks the pow’r of cancelled sin,
He sets the pris’ner free;
His blood can make the foulest clean;
His blood availed for me.

He speaks, and list’ning to his voice
new life the dead receive;
the mournful, broken hearts rejoice,
the humble poor believe.

Hear him, ye deaf, his praise, ye dumb,
your loosened tongues employ;
ye blind, behold your Saviour come,
and leap, ye lame, for joy.

My gracious Master and my God,
assist me to proclaim,
and spread through all the earth abroad,
the honours of Thy name.

Priest:  + In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
All:          Amen
Priest:   The Lord be with you
All:          and also with you.

Priest:  Today we celebrate the Feast of our Patron the Blessed Virgin Mary. We look at her example of humility and obedience and pray that in our lives we too may seek God’s will and follow it.

INVITATION TO CONFESSION
Deacon:  The Almighty has done great things for us. With Mary, we sing his
praises.
[A short silence is kept]
Your mercy is from age to age on those who fear you.
Lord, have mercy.
All:            Lord, have mercy.
Deacon:  You raise up the lowly. Christ, have mercy.
All:            Christ, have mercy.
Deacon:   You keep your promise to our forebears. Lord, have mercy.
All:           Lord, have mercy.
Priest:  + Almighty God have mercy upon you, forgive you your sins and bring you to everlasting life.
All:          Amen.

THE GLORIA (The Finchley Setting – Paul Ayres)
Glory to God in the highest, and peace to his people on earth.
Lord God, heavenly King, almighty God and Father, we worship you, we give you thanks, we praise you for your glory.
Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father, Lord God, Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world: have mercy on us; you are seated at the right hand of the Father: receive our prayer.
For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father. Amen.

COLLECT OF THE DAY
Priest:  Let us pray [remain standing as we pray in silence]

Almighty God, who looked upon the lowliness of the Blessed Virgin Mary and chose her to be the mother of your only Son: grant that we who are redeemed by his blood may share with her in the glory of your eternal kingdom; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.
All:       Amen

All sit for the readings

A reading from the prophet Isaiah (61.10 – end)

I will greatly rejoice in the Lord,
my whole being shall exult in my God;
for he has clothed me with the garments of salvation,
he has covered me with the robe of righteousness,
as a bridegroom decks himself with a garland,
and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.
For as the earth brings forth its shoots,
and as a garden causes what is sown in it to spring up,
so the Lord God will cause righteousness and praise
to spring up before all the nations.

This is the word of the Lord;
 All:        Thanks be to God.

Psalm 45. 10 – end

Your throne, O God, endures for ever and ever.
Hear, O daughter, consider and incline your ear;
forget your people and your father’s house,
and the king will desire your beauty.
Your throne, O God, endures for ever and ever.

Since he is your lord, bow to him;
the people of Tyre will seek your favour with gifts,
the richest of the people with all kinds of wealth.
Your throne, O God, endures for ever and ever.

The princess is decked in her chamber with gold-woven robes;
in many-coloured robes she is led to the king;
behind her the virgins, her companions, follow.
With joy and gladness they are led along
as they enter the palace of the king.
Your throne, O God, endures for ever and ever.

In the place of ancestors you, O king, shall have sons;
you will make them princes in all the earth.
I will cause your name to be celebrated in all generations;
therefore the peoples will praise you for ever and ever.
Your throne, O God, endures for ever and ever.

A reading from the letter of Paul to the Galatians (4. 4 – 7)

Galatians But when the fullness of time had come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, in order to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as children. And because you are children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, ‘Abba! Father!’ So you are no longer a slave but a child, and if a child then also an heir, through God.

This is the word of the Lord.
All:          Thanks be to God.

ALL STAND FOR THE GOSPEL HYMN    (HON 231)

I heard the voice of Jesus say,
‘Come unto me and rest;
lay down, thou weary one, lay down
thy head upon my breast:’
I came to Jesus as I was,
weary and worn and sad;
I found in him a resting-place,
and he has made me glad.

I heard the voice of Jesus say,
‘Behold I freely give
the living water, thirsty one;
stoop down and drink and live:’
I came to Jesus, and I drank
of that life-giving stream;
my thirst was quenched, my soul revived,
and now I live in him.

I heard the voice of Jesus say
‘I am this dark world’s light;
look unto me, thy morn shall rise,
and all thy day be bright:’
I looked to Jesus, and I found
in him my star, my sun;
and in that light of life I’ll walk
till travelling days are done.
THE GOSPEL

Deacon: The Lord be with you.
All:          And also with you.
Deacon: Hear the holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Luke
All:          Glory to you, O Lord.                         1. 46 – 55)

Mary said,
‘My soul magnifies the Lord,
and my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour,
for he has looked with favour on the lowliness of his servant.
Surely, from now on all generations will call me blessed;
for the Mighty One has done great things for me,
and holy is his name.
His mercy is for those who fear him
from generation to generation.
He has shown strength with his arm;
he has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts.
He has brought down the powerful from their thrones,
and lifted up the lowly;
he has filled the hungry with good things,
and sent the rich away empty.
He has helped his servant Israel,
in remembrance of his mercy,
according to the promise he made to our ancestors,
to Abraham and to his descendants for ever.’

This is the Gospel of the Lord;
All:          Praise to you, O Christ.

ALL SIT FOR THE SERMON (Nigel Wildish)

ALL STAND FOR THE CREED
We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate from the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshipped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

ALL KNEEL FOR THE PRAYERS OF INTERCESSION

ALL STAND FOR THE PEACE
Priest:  The Mighty One has done great things for us, and holy is his name.
He guides our feet into the way of peace.
The Peace of the Lord be always with you.
All:          and also with you
Deacon: Let us greet one another with the sign of peace.

THE OFFERTORY HYMN DURING WHICH THE GIFTS ARE BROUGHT TO THE ALTAR.  (HON 388)

O praise ye the Lord! praise him in the height;
rejoice in his word, ye angels of light;
ye heavens adore him by whom ye were made,
and worship before him, in brightness arrayed.

O praise ye the Lord! praise him upon earth,
in tuneful accord, all you of new birth;
praise him who hath brought you his grace from above,
praise him who hath taught you to sing of his love.

O praise ye the Lord, all things that give sound;
each jubilant chord re-echo around;
loud organs, his glory forth tell in deep tone,
and, sweet harp, the story of what he hath done.

O praise ye the Lord! thanksgiving and song
to him be outpoured all ages along:
for love in creation, for heaven restored,
for grace of salvation, O praise ye the Lord!

Priest:  Dear friends, pray that our sacrifice of thanks and praise may be acceptable to God the almighty Father.
All        MAY THE LORD ACCEPT THIS SACRIFICE AT OUR HANDS, FOR THE PRAISE AND GLORY OF HIS NAME, FOR OUR GOOD AND THE GOOD OF ALL HIS CHURCH.

The Prayer over The Gifts:
Priest:  God our Saviour, whose mercy is from generation to generation: in this sacrament may we share with the Virgin Mary the fullness of joy in your kingdom; through Jesus Christ our Lord..
All:  Amen.

THE EUCHARISTIC PRAYER
Priest:   The Lord be with you.
All:          And also with you.
Priest:   Lift up your hearts.
All:          We lift them to the Lord.
Priest:   Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
All:          It is right to give thanks and praise.
Priest:  It is indeed right and good, our duty and our salvation, almighty Father, ever-living God, to give you thanks and praise for the work of your grace in the Blessed Virgin Mary. For by the overshadowing of your Holy Spirit she conceived and bore the Word made flesh. At the cross she kept her vigil, and saw the saving work of your Son brought to its perfection. She rejoiced in his resurrection, and joining her prayers with those of the apostles, was filled with the gift of your promised Spirit. In her you show us the greatness of your love, and the wonderful purpose you intend for all your children. Therefore we join our voice with hers, and all the company of heaven, as they sing with joy the hymn of your glory:
THE SANCTUS AND BENEDICTUS (The Finchley Setting)
Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.
Priest:  We praise and bless you, loving Father through Jesus Christ, our Lord; and as we obey his command, send your Holy Spirit, that broken bread and wine outpoured may be for us the body and blood of your dear Son.  On the night before he died he had supper with his friends, and taking bread, he praised you.  He broke the bread, shared it with them and said: Take, eat; this is my body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of me.  When supper was ended he took the cup of wine.  Again he praised you, gave it to them and said: Drink this, all of you; this is my blood of the new covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins.  Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.
So, Father, as we remember all that Jesus did, we plead with confidence his sacrifice made once for all upon the cross. Bringing before you the bread of life and the cup of salvation.  We proclaim his death and resurrection until he comes in glory.

Deacon: Great is the mystery of faith.
All:       Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again.
Priest:  Lord of all life, help us to work together for that day when your kingdom comes and your justice and mercy will be seen in all the earth.  Look with favour on your people, gather us in your loving arms and bring us with Blessed Mary and all your saints to feast at your table in heaven.  Through Christ, and with Christ, and in Christ, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honour and glory are yours, O loving Father, for ever and ever.
All :   Amen.

[a short period of silence is kept]
Priest:   Jesus taught us to call God, Our Father, and so we have confidence to say:
All:       Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come; thy will be done; on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

The Priest breaks the consecrated bread, and then says :
Priest:  Every time we eat this bread and drink this cup;
All:         We proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.

THE AGNUS DEI
Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world, have mercy on us.
Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world, have mercy on us.
Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world, grant us peace.

Priest:  Jesus is the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.  Happy are those who are called to his supper.
All:          Lord I am not worthy to receive you but only say the word and I shall be healed.

DURING COMMUNION
During Communion the Anthem: Handel, Hallelujah Chorus (from Messiah)

THE  POST COMMUNION PRAYER
Priest:   God most high, whose handmaid bore the Word made flesh: we thank you that in this sacrament of our redemption you visit us with your Holy Spirit and overshadow us by your power; strengthen us to walk with Mary the joyful path of obedience and so to bring forth the fruits of holiness; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
All:       Amen.

All:       We thank you, Lord, that you have fed us in this sacrament, united us with Christ and given us a foretaste of the heavenly banquet prepared for all peoples. Amen.

Sit for the NOTICES

ALL STAND FOR THE FINAL HYMN  (HON 448)

Sing we of the blessed Mother who received the angel’s word,
And obedient to his summons bore in love the infant Lord;
Sing we of the joys of Mary at whose breast that child was fed,
Who is Son of God eternal and the everlasting Bread.

Sing we, too, of Mary’s sorrows, of the sword that pierced her through,
When beneath the cross of Jesus she his weight of suffering knew,
Looked upon her Son and Saviour reigning high on Calv’ry’s tree,
Saw the price of our redemption paid to set the sinner free.

Sing again the joys of Mary when she saw the risen Lord,
And, in prayer with Christ’s apostles, waited on his promised word;
From on high the blazing glory of the Spirit’s presence came,
Heavenly breath of God’s own being, manifest through wind and flame.

Sing the greatest joy of Mary when on earth her work was done,
And the Lord of all creation brought her to his heavenly home;
Virgin Mother, Mary blessèd, raised on high and crowned with grace,
May your Son, the world’s redeemer, grant us all to see his face.

Priest:  The Lord be with you
All:          And also with you

Priest:  Christ the Son of God, born of Mary, fill you with his grace to trust his promises and obey his will; And the + blessing of God almighty, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, be amongst you and remain with you always.
All:          Amen

Deacon: Go in peace to love and serve the Lord.
All:          In the name of Christ, Amen.
