St Mary’s has a strong tradition of choral and congregational singing within the Anglican tradition and enjoys a wide range of church music based on hymns, songs, the mass setting and a different anthem each week.
St Mary-at-Finchley Choir is affiliated to the Royal School of Church Music.
At the Sunday morning ten o’clock Eucharist, our robed choir numbers an average of 14-18 singers. We sing a wide range of repertoire in four-part harmony, and are well supported by a team of organists. The choir rehearses in the choir vestry on Thursday evenings from 8pm till around 9.30pm. New members are welcome. Please contact the Director of Music, Alison Fisher for more information.
Youth Choir – click here to find out about our exciting Youth Choir for children aged 7+ who love to sing and are committed to St Mary’s church. This term they are going to sing the Messiah at the Royal Albert Hall as well as leading the worship here in church on a monthly basis (with weekly rehearsals each Thursday evening 6.45-7.30pm). Individual and small-group sessions enable members to progress their Voice for Life training. Three of our trebles recently took their Bronze award exams and were Commended. Well done!
Interested in singing but not sure about a twice-weekly commitment? You could try out the St Mary-at-Finchley Community Choir. Join us for the Christmas Carol service or for one of our (approximately annual) larger choir events which have included liturgical performances of Fauré Requiem (with organ); John Rutter Requiem (with a small instrumental ensemble);Walford Davies Requiem; occasional Choral evensong. Most recently we sang evensong with another choir at their church, St John’s, Palmers Green, in June 2018. We have a Remembrance Evensong on Sunday 11th Nov (Remembrance Sunday) at 6pm.
Please contact the Director of Music, Alison Fisher, if you are interested in singing in the choir. New members are welcome. There is a weekly choir practice every Thursday evening 8-9.30pm in addition to the rehearsal at 9.15am on Sunday mornings before the 10am Eucharist.
