Mission is at the heart of St Mary’s and in many ways we see our church as existing as much for those who are not part of our family as for those who are. Through our many services we seek to nurture all comers. Through our participation in the Central Barnet Deanery and Churches Together in Finchley, we work with other churches to witness to Christ and serve the community. Our commitment to St Mary’s CE Primary School in Dollis Park, N3 is made out of a desire to nurture a school with a Christian ethos. Our work with other Christian and lay organisations in bringing comfort and hope to those in need is carried out as part of our mission.
Specific Mission Links
USPG: Anglicans in World Mission, and Madagascar
In 2012, we began a partnership with USPG and the Anglican Church in Madagascar. Through this partnership, we plan to learn about the church in Madagascar, to raise funds for its support and develop relationships with individuals and groups. In addition, we continue a tradition of many years of making an annual donation to USPG from church funds.
The Russian Orthodox Churches of the Church of the Epiphany, St Petersburg and St Alexander Nevsky, Krasnoe Selo
Since 2005, we have had links with these churches. Visits of priests and people between the churches have taken place on a regular basis. Fund raising occurs at St Mary’s nearly every year to assist in our joint activities and sometimes to support charitable projects in Russia.
Diocese of Butere
From the 1980s, we have had a link with the Anglican Diocese of Butere, in western Kenya. This has been conducted through visits from the Bishop to St Mary’s, hospitality for a Kenyan priest, a group pilgrimage from St Mary’s to Butere in 2004, and fundraising for clergy training and medical assistance at the Namasoli Medical Centre.
We support many organisations which provide support to those who need it, both in this country and abroad. More details of those charities are contained in the Charitable Links.
