Quarter-peals heard at St Mary’s for the first time in 25 years!

St Mary-at-Finchley bell-ringers have been busy training and the results are plain for all to hear – wonderful sounds from our bell-tower on Friday evenings and Sunday mornings. On Sunday 14thJune Daniel Griffith will be ringing his first quarter-peal on the St Mary-at-Finchley bells after the 10am Eucharist.  Daniel will be ‘covering’ (ringing the heaviest tenor bell which remains in a fixed position) while five experienced ringers, including several of those who have been teaching the new Finchley band, ring 1260 changes on the remaining bells.  It should take about 40 minutes and marks the 8th Centenary of the signing of the Magna Carta. This follows the covering of a similar quarter-peal by James Thomas on 10 May to celebrate VE Day. Congratulations to Daniel and James!
